PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy is a professional, scientific and holistic therapeutic method focusing on the restoration of normal function and movement, as well as minimising dysfunction and maximising potential after injury or disease. It uses physical means to assess, treat and manage musculoskeletal problems. Physiotherapy works by assisting the body's own natural healing processes without the use of medications. A comprehensive assessment is performed to identify the underlying causative factors and form a diagnosis, after which the appropriate injury management approach is selected in agreement with the client to meet the specific needs of each individual.

Conditions commonly treated include

  • Back & Neck Pain
  • Chronic Pain
  • Headaches
  • Joint and Ligament Injuries
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Pre and Post Surgical Rehabilitation
  • Pre and Post Natal Problems
  • Postural Problems and Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Sprains and Strains
  • Sports Injuries
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Whiplash
  • Work Related Injuries or Pain

My approach to Physiotherapy

Thanks to my extensive Physiotherapy, Pilates, Sports Science, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® experience, I am able to offer a unique approach to rehabilitative and preventative Physiotherapy. It is based on integrating traditional Physiotherapy with Pilates, GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® to optimise posture & movement, with particular interest in spinal complaints, sport injuries and osteoporosis.

I first assess your individual needs using a Physiotherapy assessment format. I then customise your treatment plan to suit your individual needs using my integrated therapeutic approach, choosing the most appropriate option for you. Whether it be GYROTONIC® or Pilates, the exercises I use are mostly modified from their original forms and tailored to fit your specific therapeutic needs. These exercises are reinforced by my physiotherapeutic hands-on skills. So you get the best of both worlds.

I also use my Counselling and Psychotherapy skills to deepen the physiotherapeutic process when I suspect that physical symptoms have underlying emotional causes. For example, I may work with you on how you hold yourself when you're anxious, if this anxiety pattern causes neck pain and headaches.

My integrated therapeutic approach is designed to facilitate the transition from therapy to exercise for health and well-being and assist you in fulfilling your movement potential.

Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy

In Humanistic Psychotherapy, the core belief is that people are basically healthy, and that they have simply developed patterns of thoughts, behaviours and emotions over a period of time that no longer serve them as well as they would like. But with practice and awareness, people have the ability to take charge of shaping their own life and reach their full potential.

I provide an open, safe and supportive space that recognises the relationship between me and you, my client, as significant in creating conditions for growth. I work holistically with you as you are present. Together, with practice and awareness, we collaboratively explore your unhelpful patterns with the aim of developing new, more beneficial ways of being. In this way, I intend to support you in taking charge of shaping your own life and reaching your full human potential.

In my work, I draw on a variety of Humanistic models, including Gestalt (working with awareness) and Formative Psychology (how we shape our experience).

Some of the issues I work with include:
Abuse
Addiction
Anger
Anxiety
Depression
Eating disorders (I use the intuitive eating model of Beyond Chocolate)
Health-related issues
Loss and Bereavement
OCD
Post-natal depression
Relationship and family issues
Self Esteem and Body Image
Self Harm
Sexuality
Stress
Trauma
Work and career issues
